Infertility refers to the phenomenon where despite engaging in regular sexual activity without any contraceptive measures for a year, pregnancy is not achieved. Among these cases, male infertility is due to issues within the male reproductive system that prevent impregnation of the female partner. There are many reasons for male infertility, including genetic factors, lifestyle, environmental influences, and medical conditions. This article will elaborate on how men can assess their own infertility and provide practical advice and precautions.

Understanding the Symptoms of Male Infertility

Sexual Dysfunction

Sexual dysfunction is a significant indicator of infertility, including decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and difficulty ejaculating. If you experience problems in your sexual life, it could be a signal of infertility.

Semen Abnormalities

Semen abnormalities are also important indicators of male infertility, including semen volume less than 1.5ml, abnormal semen color, excessively long or short liquefaction time, etc. If you observe these issues with your semen, further examination may be necessary.

Genital Abnormalities

Genital abnormalities, such as abnormal testicular size or morphology, or noticeable symptoms like pain, swelling, ulcers, etc., in the penis, testes, epididymis, etc., could also indicate male infertility.

Methods of Self-Assessment

Observing Semen Characteristics

You can preliminarily assess semen characteristics by observing its color, consistency, liquefaction time, etc. Normal semen should be light yellow or milky white, with freshly ejaculated semen being similar to jelly, thick, and cohesive, typically liquefying into a watery substance within 30 minutes. If there are abnormalities in semen color, consistency, liquefaction time, etc., it could be a signal of infertility.

Observing Testicular Size

Testicular size is related to male fertility, with normal testicular size being similar to that of a walnut. If they are the size of soybeans or peanuts, it could indicate abnormality and potential infertility.

Self-Examination of Genital Organs

You can regularly self-examine your genital organs for any abnormal changes, such as testicular size, morphology, consistency, etc.

Professional Examination

If you suspect that you may have infertility issues, the best course of action is to undergo examination at a professional medical institution. Doctors will select appropriate tests based on your specific situation, such as semen analysis, sexual function tests, genital organ examinations, etc.

Lifestyle Habits and Prevention

Maintain Healthy Lifestyle Habits

Good lifestyle habits are crucial for preventing infertility, including balanced diet, adequate sleep, moderate exercise, etc. At the same time, avoid unhealthy habits such as smoking, excessive drinking, etc.

Pay Attention to Environmental Factors

Environmental factors may also affect male fertility, such as exposure to harmful substances, radiation, etc. Proper protection is necessary during work to avoid prolonged exposure to hazardous environments.

Regular Check-ups

Regular check-ups can help in early detection and treatment of conditions related to infertility, increasing the chances of cure. Especially for individuals with a family history, occupational exposure, and other high-risk factors, regular check-ups are essential.

Conclusion

Male infertility is a complex issue involving multiple factors. If you suspect you may have infertility issues, it is best to seek examination at a professional medical institution. Additionally, maintaining healthy lifestyle habits, being mindful of environmental factors, and undergoing regular check-ups are important measures for preventing and treating infertility.
